A Palestinian terrorist opened fire at Israel Defense Forces stationed outside the Jewish community of Hermesh in northern Samaria, the military said on Thursday afternoon.

“A short time ago, a terrorist opened fire at IDF forces operating at the Hermesh Checkpoint in the Menashe Brigade” area of deployment, stated the IDF. “Forces returned fire and neutralized the terrorist.”

“There were no casualties among our forces,” the army clarified.

On May 30, 2023, 32-year-old father of two Meir Tamari was murdered in a Palestinian terrorist shooting attack near Hermesh, west of Jenin.

In 2024, Palestinian terrorists targeted Israeli Jews in Judea and Samaria at least 6,343 times, according to figures published by the Rescuers Without Borders (Hatzalah Judea and Samaria) NGO on Feb. 17.

Twenty-seven Israelis were murdered in Judea and Samaria in 2024, and more than 300 others were wounded, the group said in its annual report.

On Jan. 21, the IDF launched “Operation Iron Wall,” which seeks to neutralize the threat posed by Palestinian terror hubs such as Jenin.
