Melissa Lantsman, a member of the Canadian parliament, told JNS that hate crimes and bigotry against Jews had increased in the country by 150%.
“Sports has healing power,” Natan Cohen, director of marketing for NCSY, told JNS. “The court, from tipoff to final buzzer, is a place where the war isn’t happening.”
The NCSY/Athletes for Israel Auburn Experience was held in part to show appreciation for Pearl’s pro-Israel efforts.
“Our kids also come from a perspective culturally and educationally that they will return to the U.S. as allies and friends of the State of Israel,” said head coach Bruce Pearl.

$3 million gift to support Jewish identity programs for public-school teens
Communal leaders Avi and Becky Katz have established a multi-year, multi-million national initiative with NCSY, the flagship youth movement of the Orthodox Union.
“The leadership of NCSY was not contacted by the organizers of the advertisement, who instead relied on an email from a student participant to signify our approval.”
NCSY international director Rabbi Micah Greenland said “it is disappointing that during this time of great worldwide peril, when people should be joining in solidarity, there are individuals with such hatred in their hearts that they are harassing Jewish groups meeting via Zoom.”
The National Council of Synagogue Youth dedicates its programs to connecting, inspiring and empowering Jewish teen across the world through the use of Torah and tradition.
According to researcher David Bryfman, “the study sends a clear message that Jewish engagement doesn’t have to end at bar or bat mitzvah if you provide young people with programming they see as meaningful. If the Jewish youth organizations can provide that, the teens will be there.”
