PayPal drops British entity War on Want amid complaint

The complaint accuses the anti-poverty and social-justice organization of having political campaigns with little or no relevance to global poverty, in addition to making falsehoods regarding Israel.

PayPal has stopped servicing the British anti-poverty and social-justice organization War on Want after UK Lawyers for Israel (UKLFI) and the Lawfare Project filed a complaint last month with the Charity Commission, highlighting War on Want’s alleged connections to the U.K.-designated terrorist group the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine.

The complaint accuses War on Want of having political campaigns with little or no relevance to global poverty, in addition to embezzling charitable donations “for the production and dissemination of political propaganda, and published false and misleading allegations likely to result in racial hatred of Jews and Israel,” according to the Lawfare Project.

“PayPal has taken a stand against the use of its platform by groups allegedly connected to terror groups,” said Brooke Goldstein, executive director of the Lawfare Project, a nonprofit human-rights group. “The Lawfare Project has called on the Charity Commission to follow suit and engage with the detailed complaint we submitted against War on Want.”

“I am pleased that PayPal has responded to the evidence it has now seen regarding War on Want’s alleged association with groups linked to terrorism and has ceased to assist War on Want in obtaining donations,” said Caroline Turner, director of UK Lawyers for Israel, a voluntary organization that fights against the delegitimization of Israel. “I hope that the Charity Commission will now look carefully at War on Want’s activities and associations.”

U.K. Labour Leader Jeremy Corbyn, who has continually been accused of anti-Semitic dialogue and behavior, also has ties to the PFLP.
