The central South American nation joins the United States, Honduras and Guatemala in committing to the move.
The embassy will at first operate out of the U.S. consulate space in Jerusalem; the construction of a brand-new complex is in the works.
“Israel congratulates the National Congress of Honduras for passing with an overwhelming majority a resolution in favor of opening an Embassy in Jerusalem,” Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Emmanuel Nahshon said on Twitter.
“Arthur Jones is a Nazi, not a Republican. It is a disgrace that he has won the Republican nomination,” said RJC chairman Norman Coleman.
Contrasting Mike Pompeo with Rex Tillerson, who reportedly opposed U.S. recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

According to Israel’s Army Radio, the countries have conditioned their moves on an official visit to their countries by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Milos Zeman, sworn in for a second term this week, instructs officials to explore logistical aspects involved in the move.
“I’ve been here for nearly four decades seeking to build the American-Israel alliance. Under your leadership, it’s never been stronger,” he said.
After the United States announced that it will relocate its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem as early as May, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the move will “make our Independence Day celebration even happier.”
“Stein and Grosskopf are legal luminaries who come from diverse and unique backgrounds, and no one disputes their merit,” said Minister of Justice Ayelet Shaked. “I have no doubt their contribution to the Supreme Court will leave its mark on the history of the Israeli judiciary.”
According to the preliminary plans, U.S. ambassador to Israel David Friedman will move his office, along with a small staff of around four to five people, to a building in Jerusalem known as the Diplomat Hotel, which the State Department acquired in 2014.
