James Jeffrey

James Jeffrey was deputy national security advisor of the United States from 2007-08. He also served as U.S. ambassador to Iraq, Turkey and Albania; as Special Presidential Envoy to the Global Coalition to Counter ISIS; and as a U.S. infantry officer in Vietnam. He is currently the chair of the Middle East Program at the Wilson Center.

For Trump’s visit to achieve strategic success, more work is needed on the three most pressing remaining Iran-related issues: Syria, the nuclear negotiations and the Gaza Strip.
