The Israeli military has cancelled planned tours on the Syrian side of the Golan Heights over the Passover holiday.
The walking tours along the border, which were advertised last week and quickly sold out, were nixed following an “operational security assessment” of the area.
The cancelled tours included what would have been the first organized trip to a wadi in southwestern Syria that flows into the Yarmouk River, and a tour of the Hejaz Railway Tunnel in the area.
Israeli forces took up defensive positions on the Syrian side of Mount Hermon shortly after rebels ousted President Bashar Assad in December, and the area became a closed military zone.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that Israeli forces will remain on the Syrian side of the strategic plateau until another arrangement can be found.
