An indictment was filed on Wednesday against a man for making death threats against Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other elected officials.
The suspect, 46, who is from the central Israeli city of Rishon Letzion, was arrested after he arrived at the entrance to the Kirya military headquarters in Tel Aviv and ranted that he intended to murder Netanyahu and other politicians.
Police officers called to the scene arrested the suspect while he continued making threats against the officers and public officials.
The suspect was taken to a police station and questioned.
During Wednesday’s proceedings, the Tel Aviv Prosecutor’s Office requested that the suspect remain in detention until the end of the proceedings against him.
According to the indictment, at 11 a.m. on Oct. 13, the defendant arrived at the Kirya pedestrian bridge, which spans Menachem Begin Boulevard in Tel Aviv. The bridge runs from the Azrieli Center commercial complex to the main entrance to IDF headquarters.
After arousing the suspicion of soldiers on guard, one of them approached the defendant and asked him why he was there. The defendant responded by threatening the soldier and saying: “I will murder and stab Bibi, first his son and wife, and then him,” referring to Netanyahu by his nickname.
“I will murder [National Security Minister Itamar] Ben-Gvir, too,” he said. “I will go to ‘Hostage Square’ and stab all the bad people there, one by one,” he added.
