“The news about a ceasefire is incorrect. This is an American-French proposal that the prime minister has not even responded to,” said the Israeli premier’s office.
Coalition members flatly rejected the U.S.-France proposal for a 21-day ceasefire, while opposition leader Yair Lapid argued that a shorter truce could be acceptable.
“When it comes to Lebanon, the U.S. military has no involvement in Israel’s operations,” said a Pentagon spokesperson.
“Iran has already shown tremendous patience and restraint for the sake of regional peace and stability,” said Abbas Araghchi on the sidelines of the 79th UNGA session in New York City.
“Never again will the Jewish people hide from the monsters whose purpose in life is to murder Jews,” said Israel’s U.N. envoy Danny Danon.
“If there were to be a full-scale war—which we don’t have and which we’re working to avoid—that’s actually not going to solve the problem,” said the U.S. secretary of state.
“Imagine releasing two statements calling for a temporary ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon as if the government of Lebanon has any agency and sovereignty,” wrote Jason Brodsky, of United Against Nuclear Iran.
The Israeli prime minister’s remarks come amid reports that the Biden administration is spearheading a new diplomatic effort to end the fighting.
Earlier, IDF Northern Command head Maj. Gen. Ori Gordin said that the army needs to be prepared for a ground invasion.
