Israeli officials flew to Moscow to offer Russian officials evidence that a Russian plane downed off the coast of Syria during an Israeli airstrike earlier this week was not the responsibility of Israel, but of Syria.
Officials also noted that the IDF played a significant role in pushing back the Islamic State, which once controlled areas of Syria and Iraq, but has now been appreciably neutralized.

The development comes ahead of an upcoming visit to Geneva by U.S. National Security Advisor John Bolton, who will meet with senior Russian officials, focusing on issues related to Iran and Syria.
Russia says that Iranian forces will withdraw to at least 85 kilometers (53 miles) of Israel’s border, according to an interview with Russia’s chief Syria on the Sputnik news site.
Video released by the Israel Defense Forces appeared to show missiles causing large explosions at all three target sites.
“It is clear that our focus is on Syria and Iran. Our view that Iran needs to leave Syria is well-known; it is not new to you,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told Russian President Vladimir Putin.
News comes after Russia insists all non-Syrian forces must withdraw from Syria’s southern border with Israel “as soon as possible.”
