Two brothers from the town of Arraba in Israel’s Lower Galilee planned to carry out terror attacks against security forces, the Israel Police and Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) said on Monday in a joint statement.

The brothers, Yousef and Hadi Nasser, Israeli citizens, were arrested “in recent weeks” on suspicion of identifying with Hamas and were indicted by the Haifa District Attorney’s Office on charges of plotting a terror attack, the statement read.

The brothers had purchased military equipment in preparation for an “armed confrontation” with the State of Israel, it continued.

In early February, Israeli security forces prevented a bus bombing in Jerusalem by arresting five Palestinians who had planned to execute the attack remotely, the Shin Bet said in a statement.

The five alleged co-conspirators have been indicted for belonging to and engaging in an illegal association; conspiring to commit murder; gun offenses; and the attempted manufacture of a weapon, according to the Shin Bet.

The defendants, some of whom are allegedly affiliated with Hamas and others with Fatah, sought to remotely detonate an explosive device, which they planned to smuggle into Jerusalem from Samaria, according to the statement.
