U.S. Elections
“It’s no mistake; it’s no slip of the tongue. It’s passive-aggressive anti-Semitic behavior,” said the Jewish Federation of the Bluegrass.
On the Democrats’ side, three candidates have similar messages wrapped in different packages.
In an op-ed, Abe Foxman says Rep. Haley Stevens has been endorsed by pro-Israel groups such as AIPAC while Rep. Andy Levin has aligned himself with J Street and Americans for Peace Now, which call for conditioning military aid to Israel.
Her campaign was endorsed and supported by AIPAC and its new political action committee, which can support candidates directly.
The candidates understand that “being pro-Israel is both good policy and good politics,” said DMFI PAC president Mark Mellman.
In a tight Michigan primary race with Rep. Andy Levin, she spoke about the Jewish state’s importance to the global supply chain, saying she wants strong trade between the two nations.
“We need Republicans in Congress who will fight for America’s freedom, security and prosperity, and who support our ally, Israel,” said RJC executive director Matt Brooks.
Included are candidates committed to supporting the agendas of U.S. President Joe Biden and the Democratic Party, and are supportive of a strong U.S.-Israeli relationship.
Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) has been a leader in the progressive “Squad” standing against Israel on key votes in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Former U.S. State Department Spokeswoman Morgan Ortagus, who developed her Jewish identity in the Arab Gulf, announced her candidacy this week for an open, Republican-friendly congressional seat in Tennessee.
Reps. Andy Levin and Haley Stevens are running in the newly formed 11th Congressional District, which will become the most Jewish district in the state. Stevens is backed by mainstream pro-Israel groups such as Pro-Israel America, while Levin is supported by J Street.
A few of the candidates running against DMFI endorsed candidates have taken positions openly critical of Israel and in favor of BDS.
