MK Almog Cohen slammed the group for encouraging active refusal of military service and accused it of endangering the lives of law enforcement officers.
A Monday Cabinet meeting saw coalition ministers vent over what they said was the attorney general’s interference in government decision-making.
The move came after Amos Schocken, the publisher of the Haaretz daily, called Hamas terrorists “freedom fighters” and called for sanctions.
Justice Minister Yariv Levin expressed displeasure with the court for its “seizure” of his authority.
The justice minister said he wouldn’t work with a Supreme Court president appointed “illegally” and “illegitimate” to a vast section of the Israeli public.
The court warned that unless Yariv Levin convenes the committee as soon as possible, it will issue a ruling forcing him to do so on Sept. 1.
Justice Minister Yariv Levin will serve as acting PM during the procedure.
A spokesman for Justice Minister Yariv Levin has denied the report.
The move comes after an Arab party MK denied that Hamas killed infants on Oct. 7.
The Judicial Selection Committee hearing was moved to Nov. 12 after Justice Ministry lawyers were called up for IDF duty.
“The current situation in Israel is that the judicial system is completely controlled by ... an elite group,” Israeli Justice Minister Yariv Levin told the CBS News show.
Minister Yair Levin said the court has no authority to demand he convene the panel.
