An Israeli Border Police officer is fighting for his life after being stabbed by a terrorist and hit by friendly fire at a checkpoint to the entrance to Shuafat in northeastern Jerusalem on Monday.

The 13-year-old assailant pulled a knife on security personnel who had boarded a bus during a routine inspection at the checkpoint, police said. A civilian security guard opened fire at the suspect, hitting the Border Police officer.

The victim was evacuated to Hadassah Medical Center with serious stab wounds to the head and a bullet wound to the thigh.

The suspect was subsequently arrested.

It came just hours after a teenager was stabbed and lightly to moderately injured in a terrorist attack in the Old City of Jerusalem.

Magen David Adom said its personnel treated a fully conscious 17-year-old male near the Western Wall, who was stabbed at the Chain Gate entrance to the Temple Mount.

The victim was taken in stable condition to the city’s Hadassah Ein Kerem Medical Center.

Security forces arrested the terrorist, who was hiding atop the Temple Mount.
