The lawsuit alleges that William Jackson never called law enforcement when a Jewish student was barricaded in a classroom, with an angry mob of 20 students banging on the door.
A university spokesman told JNS that the resolution from the union, which is a separate entity, doesn’t reflect Cornell’s views.
Wendy Raymond said she will step down in 2027. The college faces a federal probe over its handling of Jew-hatred.
“By adopting the IHRA definition, the university administration has absolutely done the right thing by the campus Jewish community,” Miriam Elman, of the Academic Engagement Network, told JNS.
“I can tell you that that’s the most of any university in the world,” Mark Ruben, executive director of Israel Bonds, told JNS.
There have been “disturbing reports of Jewish students being harassed and subjected to open antisemitism in their classrooms and hallways” in the districts, the committee said.
“I was surprised and a little bit relieved and also heartened by how much political support the preliminary recommendations received immediately,” a Democratic state representative, who is Jewish, told JNS.
Rabbi Hirschy Zarchi, of the Chabad House at Harvard, told JNS that it’s “sad and shameful” that the student is a recipient of the scholarship.
“This was obvious and open Jew-hatred,” Ilya Bratman told JNS, of Abdullah Mady leading a walkout against him.
“The students who spoke against the resolution were courageous and inspiring,” the Michigan Hillel CEO told JNS.
The nonprofit awarded its largest-ever round of Wolfson Merit scholarships.
