Israel marks 50th anniversary of Ben-Gurion University with new postage stamp
Created by designer Zvika Roitman, it highlights BGU’s focus on innovations in science, technology and commercial collaboration envisioned by Israel’s first prime minister, David Ben-Gurion.
Over the course of 90 years, the Jewish Agency has worked to build a bilateral connection between Jews and Israel, and to strengthen the relationship between Jews with Israel at its center.
“To survive as long as he has in Israel’s raucous political system is no small feat. He has clearly left a deep imprint on the country and its future,” Michael Freund, the prime minister’s deputy communications director from 1996-99, told JNS.
Benjamin Netanyahu will edge out former David Ben-Gurion, who stood at the nation’s helm for a total of 4,875 days.
He compares realities on the ground between the time he immigrated to the day after the creation of the modern-day Jewish state.
Once Benjamin Netanyahu is selected, he will have 28 days to form a unity government. A 14-day extension can be granted, if necessary.
“I hear what is being said,” noted the prime minister, “and I can’t share [the information] with the public. I wish I could tell citizens everything I know.”
