The Israel Air Force on Sunday carried out a targeted strike on Hamas operatives in the Khan Yunis humanitarian area.
The terrorists were in a command and control center being used to plan and coordinate attacks against Israeli forces and civilians, according to the military.
Also on Sunday, an IAF aircraft targeted and eliminated a Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorist in Dier al-Balah who had been involved in planning and executing terrorist activities from the humanitarian area.
Before carrying out these strikes, extensive precautions were taken to minimize the risk of civilian casualties, according to the Israel Defense Forces.
“The Hamas terrorist organization systematically violates international law, while exploiting civilian infrastructure and the Gazan population as human shields for terrorist activity,” the IDF said, adding that it will continue to operate against terrorist organizations in defense of the citizens of Israel.
IDF kills PIJ commander linked to Oct. 7 attack
Last week, soldiers from the Givati Brigade, operating under the 162nd Division, successfully eliminated Sa’ed Saeed Zaki Dahnoun, a senior terrorist from the Palestinian Islamic Jihad organization, in close-quarters combat.
Dahnoun, who served as a company commander and deputy head of the rocket array in northern Gaza, had infiltrated Israel and participated in the massacre on Oct. 7, 2023. He was also responsible for planning and leading multiple ambushes against IDF forces in the Beit Lahia area.
Footage captured during the operation shows two terrorists, including Dahnoun, advancing under the cover of rain and darkness, with blankets covering them. IDF troops neutralized Dahnoun in a rapid engagement, after which the second terrorist surrendered.
The terrorists had been carrying an improvised explosive device, according to the military.
