Clashes erupted on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem on Sunday between Israeli security forces and Palestinians, as Jews marked the Shavuot holiday.

The Palestinian rioters barricaded themselves inside the Al-Aqsa mosque, and hurled rocks and chairs at the Israeli forces, who acted as a buffer between them and Jewish visitors to the site, according to Ynet.

There were no injuries during the disturbance.

The Israel Police condemned the rioters in a statement, saying they had “once again desecrated the sanctity of the mosque.”

“Israel police forces are taking actions to maintain the order and to enable safe visits,” the statement continued, stressing that freedom of worship would be upheld at the site.
