Palestinian terrorists in the Gaza Strip fired five rockets at southern Israel on Wednesday night, as Jews marked Yom Kippur, their holiest day.

Four of the projectiles were intercepted, while the fifth struck an open area, the Israel Defense Forces said.

The barrage triggered air-raid sirens in the Lakhish region in south-central Israel, including in Ashdod. There were no reports of injuries or damage.

Hours earlier, the IDF reported that the Air Force had likely intercepted two additional projectiles fired into Israel from northern Gaza. Air-raid alerts were heard in several kibbutzim near the northeastern Strip—Kfar Aza, Sa’ad, Mefalsim and at the Nir Am Shooting Range.

Also on Wednesday, the IDF intercepted a drone launched at the Jewish state by Houthi terrorists in Yemen. The UAV was shot down off the coast of Eilat, but, “in accordance with protocol,” no sirens were sounded because it did not pose a threat.
