The father of Malki Roth, a victim of the 2001 Sbarro pizzeria suicide bombing in Jerusalem, says the logic of protecting Jordan’s monarchical head of state kept “everybody off the king’s tail.”
Although an extradition treaty exists between the United States and Jordan, the Roths have struggled to obtain justice for their daughter’s murder.
Reports that Jordan would extradite the terrorist to the United States, if true, would mark a major shift in Amman’s position.
“If the U.S. isn’t demanding this, and the Israelis aren’t, what is to say the Jordanians should do anything?” said Jonathan Schanzer of FDD, referring to the mastermind of the 2001 Sbarro pizzeria suicide-bombing.
A bill proposed by Rep. Greg Steube would halt or limit assistance to Jordan for violating a 1995 extradition treaty over its harboring of a Hamas terrorist.
The release of the Roth video came out four years after the United States announced terrorism charges against Ahlam Ahmad Tamimi for masterminding the attack on a Sbarro pizzeria.
“They told the oh-so-sad tale of how her husband Nizar Tamimi, who is also a released terrorist, had been forced by Jordanian authorities to leave Jordan for Qatar on Oct 1,” said Arnold Roth.
He and his wife, Ahlam Tamimi, were released from prison in 2011 in an exchange with Hamas for captured Israel soldier Gilad Shalit.
Efforts are also underway to push for the extradition of Ahlam Tamimi, the mastermind behind 2001 Sbarro pizzeria bombing in Jerusalem that killed 15 people, including two Americans.
Multiple options are on the table to secure Ahlam Tamimi’s extradition, says nominee for U.S. ambassadorship to Jordan.
The letter noted that “up until the Tamimi case and its Israeli victims, Jordan had extradited terrorists to the United States multiple times.”
A report could lead to increased pressure by the White House on Jordan to extradite Ahlam Tamimi, who helped plan the 2001 Sbarro pizzeria bombing in Jerusalem that caused the deaths of 15 people, including two Americans, to the United States.
