Anti-Israel Bias
The politically biased statement creates an unwelcoming and toxic atmosphere on campus, they say, and could prevent Jewish students and others who support Israel from attending the university.
Activists and community leaders will hand out educational materials about the BDS movement against Israel, in addition to free ice-cream.
Franchisees operating 30 stores across the country, generating $23.3 million in combined annual revenue, say the company’s stance on Israel has damaged their bottom line.
“Over 30 countries have adopted the IHRA definition of anti-Semitism, but only 10 countries announced they wouldn’t participate,” says Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Gilad Erdan.
“Please continue to be assured that Maryland is committed to diversity and inclusion, and ardently opposes any form of discrimination based on religion, national origin, place of residence or ethnicity,” stated a letter by Maryland Secretary of State John C. Wobensmith.
“The second Ben & Jerry’s decided to discriminate against Israel, it affected Florida’s ability to make investments with its parent company,” said Jimmy Patronis, CFO of the State Board of Administration.
It was placed by the media watchdog group CAMERA, which has used the platform before to raise awareness of Jewish issues.
If Unilever is found non-compliant, the state would have to divest from it and any of its subsidiaries.
“Discrimination against some Jews harms all Jews worldwide,” says El Rosado Group CEO Johnny Czarninski.
In their op-ed, they also accused Israel of an “illegal occupation” that “violates the basic human rights of the Palestinian people who live under the occupation.”
The company “needs to explain itself and this astonishing decision,“ says former Likud Knesset member Anat Berko.
“I will not be a part of an organization that supports those who wish to destroy us,” said Professor Yedidyah Langsam, chairman of Brooklyn’s College’s Computer and Information Science Department.
