Jonathan D. Salant has been a Washington correspondent for more than 35 years and has worked for such outlets as Newhouse News Service, the Associated Press, Bloomberg News, NJ Advance Media and the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. A former president of the National Press Club, he was inducted into the Society of Professional Journalists D.C. chapter’s Journalism Hall of Fame in 2023.

“Where is the outrage for these two young victims?” Rep. Mike Johnson said. “We must stand up and protect our Jewish brothers and sisters.”
“Jewish communities are facing a real crisis with a real set of threats, and Congress must respond with real action,” Nathan Diament said.
“If Jewish Americans can’t walk freely in Boulder, or work safely in D.C. or celebrate Passover in their own homes without fear, then we indeed have failed as a nation,” said the resolution’s chief sponsor, Rep. Jeff Van Drew.
“We will not allow hate to silence our commitment,” said Chris Wolf, president of the museum’s board of directors.
“All of us must do what we can to fight antisemitism, to make this a turning point, to make the world understand we will not accept this as normal,” said Ted Deutch, the CEO of the American Jewish Committee.
“After this week’s horrific antisemitic attack, it’s clear that the need is more urgent than ever,” the congressman said.
The vote took place the day after a gunman killed two Israeli embassy staffers outside a Jewish museum in Washington, D.C.
“This attack represents a natural culmination of what we’ve seen over the last 600 days. People who are rationalizing the murder of Jews,” said William Daroff, of the Conference of Presidents.
“These independent schools are failing to support Jewish families,” said Jonathan Greenblatt, the nonprofit’s CEO.
“This is a global emergency and it requires a global response,” Marina Rosenberg, of the ADL, testified.
“We take great pride regarding the impact we have made on so many generations of Americans,” Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz said.
“The intensity of the opposition is striking,” pollster Jim Gerstein said.
