Comedian and ‘Seinfeld’ actor Jerry Stiller dies at 92

He earned an Emmy nomination in 1997 for his role on “Seinfeld.”

Jewish actor and comedian Jerry Stiller has died at the age of 92, his son, actor and comedian Ben Stiller announced on Monday.

“I’m sad to say that my father, Jerry Stiller, passed away from natural causes. He was a great dad and grandfather, and the most dedicated husband to Anne for about 62 years. He will be greatly missed. Love you Dad,” tweeted Ben Stiller.

The elder Stiller, who was born in 1927 into a Polish Jewish household in Brooklyn, N.Y., was known for playing George Costanza’s father Frank on the hit TV show “Seinfeld,” where his best-known scenes included an airing of grievances during the winter holiday season called “Festivus.” He earned an Emmy nomination in 1997 for the role.

Stiller also was famous for playing Arthur Spooner on the TV comedy “The King of Queens.

Additionally, Stiller was featured in the 2014 documentary “Deli Man,” about the evolution and decline of the Jewish delicatessen.

He and his son starred together in movies such as “Zoolander,” “Zoolander 2,” “Heavyweights,” “Hot Pursuit” and “The Heartbreak Kid.”

Stiller married his wife, Anne Meara, in 1954. She died in 2015.

In addition to his son, Stiller is survived by his daughter, Amy, and two grandchildren.
