Four Ghanaian peacekeepers were wounded on Tuesday in two separate Hezbollah attacks on United Nations Interim Force In Lebanon (UNIFIL) bases in Southern Lebanon, according to the Israeli military.

At 1:30 p.m. local time, the Iranian terror proxy fired several rockets from the area of Maaliyeh, striking a UNIFIL post in the area of Shama. Several hours earlier, at 9:50 a.m., Hezbollah fired a rocket from the Deir Aames area that hit a UNIFIL post near Ramyeh.

According to a statement released by UNIFIL, the four peacekeepers were injured when a rocket “fired most likely by non-State actors within Lebanon” hit their base near Ramyeh. Three of the wounded were transferred to a hospital in Tyre for treatment.

With regard to the afternoon incident, UNIFIL said that five rockets struck a maintenance workshop at UNIFIL Sector West Headquarters in Shama, causing heavy damage. The U.N. agency noted that on Nov. 15, a 155mm artillery shell had hit the base.

Italy’s Defense Ministry said that eight rockets had hit the headquarters of the Italian UNIFIL contingent in Shama. Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto had originally blamed Israel for the attack, but a Defense Ministry source told AFP that he “did not have the right information” when he spoke and that “Hezbollah was responsible for the attack.”

The UNIFIL statement noted that one of the agency’s patrols had been fired on in a separate incident near the village of Khirbat Silim on Tuesday, causing no injuries.
