Israeli soldiers in Beit Hanoun in the northern Gaza Strip discovered a civilian home connected to several tunnels on Monday, the Israel Defense Forces announced.

Team leader, Capt. (res.) R. dedicated the demolition of the tunnels to his uncle, Ofir Libstein, who was the head of the Sha’ar HaNegev Regional Council.

The council governs 11 communities located adjacent to the northeast corner of the Gaza Strip. It includes some of the communities most devastated in the Oct. 7 Hamas onslaught, such as Kibbutz Kfar Aza and Kibbutz Nahal Oz.

Libstein and his son, Nitzan, were killed on Oct. 7 while trying to defend Kfar Aza from the Hamas attack.

“I want, not as an act of revenge, but as an act of defending the homeland, to dedicate this explosion to Ofir,” said Capt. R.
