Israeli forces overnight Monday confiscated a handgun and ammunition in Beit Ummar, after Palestinian terrorists opened fire hours from the town on the Jewish community of Karmei Tzur.
The gunfire shattered the window of a home, prompting the mayor of the Gush Etzion Regional Council to call on the Israel Defense Forces.
“Karmei Tzur protects Gush Etzion from the south. We can’t allow the enemy to continue and attack the community without a strong response,” said Mayor Yaron Rosenthal.
“Oct. 7 proved to us that whomever allows shooting targeting citizens, and downplays it, invites more serious attacks in the future. We won’t allow this!” he added.

In separate operations, Israeli forces arrested two wanted suspects in Jenin. In the Balata camp in Nablus, a suspect tried to steal a weapon from an IDF soldier, who opened fire in response.
“A hit was detected,” said the military. No further details on the suspect’s condition were provided.
During the Balata raid, troops also located and destroyed explosives.
Overall, forces arrested 14 terror suspects in raids across Judea and Samaria.
Since Oct. 7, some 3,600 wanted Palestinian have been detained in the territories, of whom some 1,600 are affiliated with Hamas.
