The Jewish Community Relations Council/American Jewish Committee (JCRC/AJC) plans to honor 75 years of Israeli and Indian independence at a July 16 event at Congregation Shir Tikvah in Troy, Mich.
“The Hindu community in Detroit has developed a warm relationship with the Jewish community in Detroit, and we look forward to this local relationship helping to promote the Israel-India relationship as well,” Rabbi Asher Lopatin, executive director of the JCRC/AJC, told JNS.
The event is to be in partnership with the Hindu Community Relations Council and South Asian American Voices for Impact, and it will include performances of music from each culture, as well as a buffet of Israeli and Indian dishes.
Yinam Cohen and Somnath Ghosh, Israeli and Indian consul generals to the Midwest respectively, are expected to attend.
The relationship between Israel and India is “one of the most exciting geopolitical events of the last decade,” Lopatin told JNS.
“Deepening the relationship between India and Israel is vital not only to India and Israel but to the entire world,” he added.
