Caroline Glick: The left turned Rabin into a ‘John Lennon-esque’ figure to use him

“Caroline Glick Show” with Caroline Glick and guest Dan Diker.

On this episode of the “Caroline Glick Show,” Glick argues that the Israeli left has been distorting Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin’s legacy for its own political benefit.

“What the left has been doing all along for the past nearly 30 years is to demonize the right and distort Rabin’s own legacy of what he believed and what he stood for in order to transform Rabin, who was a sort of realist-nationalist, into a John Lennon-esque, utopian progressive,” says Glick.

Israel marked the 27th anniversary of Rabin’s assassination earlier this week.

Joining Glick is Dan Diker, former secretary general to the World Jewish Congress and incoming executive director of the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs.

First-hand experience

During the show, Glick shares her experience as a young officer in the Israeli military during the Oslo peace process, between 1994 and 1996.

“I was a captain in the IDF,” she recalls. “I served as the coordinator for the negotiations on civil affairs with the Palestinians, from the Office of the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories, which is responsible for the civil administration of the Palestinians in Judea, Samaria, and at the time, in Gaza,” she says. “We were involved with all the negotiations and I was one of the core members of the Israeli negotiating team, drafting the agreements and negotiating them with the Palestinians.”

According to Glick, Rabin’s idea for peace was not so different from the one pursued by Benjamin Netanyahu, the leader of the Likud Party. Under this vision, “Israel would continue to have perpetual control and sovereignty over the Jordan Valley and also over the Israeli communities in Judea and Samaria,” she says.

The demonization of the right

Glick and Diker also discuss the roots of the international demonization of Israel, which according to Diker can be traced back to the 1960s.

“The Soviet Union in 1964-65 tried to paint Israel as a Nazi state in the United Nations, and it failed. But then again, 10 years later, it actually was the sponsor and the drafter of the infamous U.N. General Assembly Resolution 3379, which was the infamous resolution stating that Zionism is racism,” he says.

The two also talk about the connection between the demonization of Israel and the left’s demonization of the right.

According to Glick, the left “ignores the actual ideas, actions, values and ideology that animate their political opponents, because they want to demonize them to make everybody fear them, and to instill fear and a detestation of anybody who’s not on the progressive side of the aisle.”

Katie Wilson, who promised when she was running for mayor to turn off cameras, said that she made the decision after an intelligence briefing from local and federal law enforcement.
“It is troubling that a stadium supported by taxpayer dollars would openly subsidize an event led by an artist known for pushing this dangerous, hateful rhetoric, especially with Florida having one of the largest Jewish populations in our country,” Sen. Rick Scott stated.
Toronto’s police chief said that there will be more barricades and officers in an effort to prevent a repeat of last year’s “gauntlet of hate” near the walk.
Mika Hackner of the North American Values Institute told JNS that “particular attention should be paid to the ‘local institutions’ tasked with carrying on” the foundation’s programs.
The House Armed Services Committee rejected Rep. Ro Khanna’s amendment to delete section 224 from the annual defense bill, which calls for increased cooperation between the U.S. and Israel.
Yehuda Kaploun, special envoy at the department, declined to comment on the news and said broadly that governments must protect their Jews.
