Israel’s neighbor will not renew parts of a 1994 peace treaty that leases two areas on the Jordan River to Israel, saying Jordan aims to practice “full sovereignty on our land.”
The idea of a confederation between Jordan and the Palestinians has been discussed over the years. But to have a confederation, there needs to be two independent states, and the Palestinians don’t have one.
The trip to Amman was only announced by the Prime Minister’s Office after it had been completed on Monday evening. It comes ahead of a visit by senior Trump administration officials to the region.
