One killed in stabbing near Jerusalem

The victim, a 46-year-old man, was transported to Shaare Zedek Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead • Police arrested the suspected assailant in Jerusalem.

A 46-year-old man was pronounced dead at Jerusalem’s Shaare Zedek Hospital on Monday after being stabbed in Abu Ghosh, near the Israeli capital, earlier in the day.

Magen David Adom (MDA) emergency teams provided initial medical treatment at the scene in the Arab-Israeli town, located six miles west of Jerusalem, before evacuating the victim, a resident of Abu Ghosh, to hospital.

The suspected assailant fled the scene, but was arrested in Jerusalem, according to Israel Police. He is a former brother-in-law of the victim from the nearby Arab village of Ein Rafa.

The press statement added that police are expected to request an extension of his detention on Tuesday.

The motivation behind the attack remains unclear.
