The potential 2028 presidential candidate is the latest Democrat to take a firmer position against Israel.
“No one should face discrimination when they travel, and today’s action sends a clear message to the airline industry,” stated U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.
He said he would “direct the Justice Department’s Community Relations Service to prioritize its efforts to combat anti-Semitism and reduce tensions in communities where anti-Semitic incidents occur.”
“We need to have the visibility to know whether U.S. funds are being used in a way that’s actually not compatible with U.S. policy, and U.S. policy should not be promoting this kind of settlement construction,” said Pete Buttigieg, mayor of South Bend, Ind.
Deven Anderson has a history of praising National of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, who has an extensive history of making anti-Jewish remarks such as “I’m anti-termite,” and that Hitler was “a very great man.”

The group has approached several leading Democrats to voice support against a term that has often been used by anti-Israel groups in the attempt to delegitimize Israel.
“What’s done is done,” said the mayor of South Bend, Ind., and a candidate for the Democratic nomination for president in 2020.
“By invoking assistance to Israel, Mayor Buttigieg used one of the most long-standing bipartisan issues as a political instrument in his fight for the 2020 Democratic nomination,” said AJCongress president Jack Rosen.

“Most people aren’t aware of the difference between what’s happening in Gaza—run by Hamas in a way that is contributing to a lot of misery there—but also totally different than an environment where you’d have a negotiating partner across the table.”
The freshman congresswoman said, “ … when I see Israel institute laws that recognize it as a Jewish state and does not recognize the other religions that are living in it. And we still uphold it as a democracy in the Middle East.”
