American Jewish Congress congratulates Spain for adopting IHRA definition

Spain’s firm stance against hatred of the Jewish people is welcome and crucial in light of the increase in and pervasiveness of antisemitism in Europe and around the world.

The American Jewish Congress congratulates the Spanish government for adopting the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) working definition of antisemitism.

This important definition remains the most comprehensive guideline for spotting, highlighting, and combating antisemitism in public life, media, schools, and in the religious sphere. Spain’s firm stance against hatred of the Jewish people is welcome and crucial in light of the increase in and pervasiveness of antisemitism in Europe and around the world.

With this decision, Spain becomes the 26th country to adopt the IHRA working definition of antisemitism. We invite other countries to follow suit and show that they are committed to treating antisemitism with the seriousness that it deserves.
