The Lawfare Project joined a packed audience in Miami Beach for an exclusive screening of the acclaimed HBO Max series “One Day in October.” The event featured hostage survivor Omer Shemtov, whose harrowing story is dramatized in the episode titled “505.” Omer was held in Hamas captivity for 505 days and was able to share his emotional experience with attendees.
The event was moderated by Brooke Goldstein of The Lawfare Project, who led a panel discussion with show creator and producer Daniel Finkelman and producer Chaya Amor. Omer also joined Brooke, Daniel and Chaya who moved the audience with his message of survival, resilience and hope. Sharon Beck produced the event alongside Shlomi Cohen and Victoria Zirkiev.
“It was a true honor to participate in the screening and lead this panel discussion,” said Brooke Goldstein, founder and executive director of The Lawfare Project. “The pain, horror and ultimate heroism of the survivors like Omer must be seen by audiences around the world to ensure no one forgets the tragedy of October 7th.”
“One Day in October,” co-created by Daniel Finkelman and Oded Davidoff, is a seven-part anthology series based on true stories from the October 7th attacks. Each episode combines cinematic dramatization with real survivor testimony, ensuring that the voices of those who endured are never forgotten. The series is produced by Sparks Go and ZOA, alongside producers Lee Kuperman and Aviv Ben-Shloush. In Israel, it streams on YES, and in the United States, it is available exclusively on HBO Max. The series is distributed internationally by FOX Entertainment, in partnership with Moriah Films and the Simon Wiesenthal Center.
“I grew up believing that if a Holocaust survivor was telling their story, you stopped everything and let them finish,” said Daniel Finkelman, series creator and producer. “And today, after the greatest attack on Jews since the Holocaust, it’s our responsibility to give the survivors of October 7 that same space—to let their voices be heard, remembered and preserved through film.”
Also in attendance were actress Noa Kedar, who portrays Gali Amar in the “Sunrise” episode, and executive producers Gabe and Ya’ara Plotkin, Tzvi Gelman, Harley Lippman, Mina Marsow, Tzvi Amor and Ariel Sebag, who have been instrumental in supporting the show.
“The films of today will become the history books of tomorrow,” said Chaya Amor, Series Producer. “Our story is ours alone to tell.”
The Miami Beach screening follows successful events in New York and Los Angeles, part of a growing series of nationwide discussions inspired by the stories behind One Day in October.
