“We are striking the enemy: its leadership, its oppressive regime, and various targets, those in Lebanon included,” said Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“You can have as many nuclear bombs as you want, but you’re on your way out,” said Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
The slain victim was identified as 20-year-old Cpl. Avraham Fetena from Haifa.
The strikes were conducted against a training facility and a safe house near the cities of Abu Kamal and Mayadin.
The Israeli military did not specify which organization was targeted.
“We are in a difficult war. This will be a long war. We have so many important achievements but also painful losses,” said Prime Minister Netanyahu.
The strikes “are separate and distinct from the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas,” said U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin.
Israel had imposed a siege on the enclave following Hamas’s Oct. 7 cross-border massacre of 1,400 people.
Ayman Nofal, a member of the General Military Council of Hamas’s Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, was killed in an IDF airstrike.
