Two Jewish players helped propel Quinnipiac University in Connecticut to a championship on April 8 in the Frozen Four—the ice-hockey equivalent of the Final Four.
The winning goal, which came 10 seconds into overtime, came on a pass from the Jewish forward Sam Lipkin. Quinnipiac’s goalie, Yaniv Perets—who recently signed an entry-level NHL contract with the Carolina Hurricanes—is also Jewish.
Perets, 23, is a native of Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Quebec, and according to the Quinnipiac website, is the son of Joshua and Nancy Perets, and one of five brothers (Adam, Igal, Ben and Tal).
He went 34-4-3 and the 2022-23 season, with a .932 save percentage, and 10 shutouts in 39 games. His NCAA career record is 54-9-5, with a .936 save percentage and 21 shutouts in 72 games.
Lipkin, who is from Philadelphia, has 14 goals and 29 assists in 39 games.
