The student senate at Florida State University voted on Thursday morning not to remove its new president, despite his past anti-Semitic posts.

The final tally was not disclosed.

Ahmad Daraldik was selected by the Florida State University Student Senate to replace its previous president, Jack Denton, who was accused of racism. Along those lines, Daraldik faced calls to step down after screenshots surfaced of past anti-Semitic posts.

“Being in a position of power presented Ahmad the opportunity to represent ALL students at Florida State University, including Jewish and Israeli students. He could have taken the opportunity to learn, open up a dialogue with us, and work with us to create a shared understanding,” the group Noles for Israel said in a statement on June 12. “Instead, he chose to further marginalize our community and create further polarization on our campus.”

“As a university Senate president, Ahmad should not be using his position to spread misinformation and slander that will cause harm to an oppressed minority,” they added.

Daraldik, a Palestinian Muslim, had previously posted on Instagram using language like “stupid Jew thinks he is cool,” “#f***Israel” and “#f***theoccupation.”

He responded with a recent video in which he defended his statements on Israel, citing a August 2019 trip to the disputed territories where he allegedly had a negative experience at a Israeli checkpoint.

“I was dehumanized, I was humiliated, and I was upset,” said Daraldik, reported CampusReform.

Nevertheless, Daraldik has made other troubling remarks.

While claiming to oppose anti-Semitism, he equated Israelis with Nazis and Palestinian experiences with the Holocaust on a website he created devoted to this falsehood. A caption on the website reads, “The Holocaust never ended, it just moved to Palestine ... ”

In 2012, he shared on his now-deleted Facebook account a post that glorified the swastika.

StandWithUs blasted Daraldik, who is a member of FSU’s chapter of Students for Justice in Palestine, while also criticizing the student senate for failing to remove him.

“The senate voted against removing their president based on blatantly false claims. It was repeatedly stated that all of his anti-Semitic statements occurred many years ago, when in fact he equated Israelis with Nazis in a video posted literally this month,” SWU co-founder and CEO Roz Rothstein told JNS. “The lies promoted by those tripping all over themselves to defend him are almost as bad as his many anti-Semitic posts and comments.”
