All the way from Oregon, Joe Truzman disproved major points in the recently released U.N. Human Rights Council report—namely, that many of the report’s “victims” shot by soldiers of the Israeli Defense Force were actually members of militant groups, including Hamas.
If enacted, the Palestinian International Terrorism Support Prevention Act would slap penalties on foreign persons, agencies and governments that assist Hamas, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad or their affiliates.
According to a poll by the Ramallah-based Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research, Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas would win a presidential race against Hamas head Ismail Haniyeh.
The U.N. envoy to Israel and the Palestinian territories, Nickolay Mladenov, said in a statement: “I strongly condemn the campaign of arrests and violence used by Hamas security forces against protesters, including women and children, in Gaza over the past three days.”
“Hamas is not behind the launch,” Yayha Sinwar reportedly told his Egyptian guests, there helping to arrange a long-term ceasefire with Israel, before asking them to contact Israeli leaders and inform them that no order had been given to fire rockets at Israel—and certainly not at Tel Aviv.
“This is not the Israeli occupation forces!!” Fatah Central Committee member Hussein al-Sheikh tweeted, in response to images and videos of aggression against protesters. “It is the Hamas gangs that are terrorizing and suppressing the hungry in the Gaza Strip.”
The move comes the day after two rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip in the direction of Tel Aviv.
The dramatic escalation took place a little more than a month before Israelis are scheduled to go to the polls for national elections, and just two months before Tel Aviv is expected to host the international Eurovision song contest.
This is the first time since “Operation Protective Edge” in 2014 that central Israel had been targeted by Gaza terrorists.
The symbolism involved in firing on Israel’s largest metropolis and economic hub is a direct challenge to Israeli deterrence.
