Quentin Tarantino picks up honorary degree from Hebrew University

Hebrew University, Libra Group launch 10-year program for grad students
The program will offer full scholarships to 40 to 50 graduate students over 10 years across a range of academic disciplines.
Professor Haim Sompolinsky pioneered research on collective behavior and informational processing of large, complex neural circuits in the brain.
The National SCOPUS Award honors those who “demonstrate humanitarian concerns throughout their lifetime” and are distinguished by “their civic engagement, their concern to achieve peaceful coexistence among people and nations, and their work on behalf of important causes locally, nationally and internationally.”
The assistance offers a minimum of four months of tuition and a living stipend; researchers are also being matched with faculty members.
The visit is based on an agreement to “collaborate on areas of mutual interest—namely, agriculture, business, pharmacology, natural sciences, mathematics and computer engineering.”

“This is what the United States and Hebrew University do best: provide people from all backgrounds the opportunity to succeed in life and pursue their dreams of higher education,” said president Asher Cohen.
It is offering temporary posts to academics and invited educators to continue their research for up to four months in Israel.
The two countries are at a critical stage in their relationship, says the study’s lead author; “We need to look to the future. History is a strong pillar but it fades away.”

Siblings of children with disabilities may have greater empathy, new study finds
Researchers examined data from the Longitudinal Israeli Study of Twins, which included 1,657 families of twins born in 2004 and 2005.
The black spider, named Sahastata aravaensis because of its habitat, belongs to the Sahastata genus of the Filistatinae family.
“Alongside the very strong trade relations and formal agreements between Israel and Europe, Israelis observe the rise of anti-Semitism and the growing power of the political right in Europe with great alarm,” said Professor Gili Drori.
