The resident of Tayibe wanted to use a kidnapped soldier as leverage to force Israel to end the war against Hamas.
Alaa Ga’udat Bani Ouda and Mohammad Qassem Suleiman were part of a cell planning an imminent attack.
The slain man was identified as Staff Sgt. Chalachew Shimon Demalash.
This is “further proof of Hamas’s cynical and systematic modus operandi of exploiting civilian infrastructure as manned terror command posts.”
The IDF has opened an investigation into the incident.
The slain soldier was identified as Maj. Shahar Netanel Bozaglo, 27.
The vehicles are used to safely clear booby-trapped streets and structures “Imagine what 100 such robotic APCs could do… this is the battlefield of the future,” said a senior IDF officer.
“As the people of Israel gather around the holiday table, they will do so thanks to you,” said Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir.
According to the IDF, more than 550,000 civilians have so far evacuated Gaza City and moved south.
“The IDF regrets any harm to uninvolved individuals and operates to minimize such harm as much as possible,” the army said.
“The goal is always the same: our citizens must feel safe,” said Sgt. Maj. Eyal, an Israel Police veteran currently serving as a reservist in the north.
One projectile was intercepted, while the second hit in an open area.
