As the ceasefire between Israel and the Gaza-based terrorist organization Palestinian Islamic Jihad continues to hold, ending three days of violence, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken expressed gratitude to those parties that helped in the negotiations.

In a statement on Monday, Blinken said that he was grateful to Egypt for helping mediate between the two sides, and commended Qatar, the U.N. Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Tor Wennesland, Jordan and the Palestinian Authority.

“Our team worked around the clock with the parties to support the outcome,” he said.

The agreement, he wrote, will allow for critical fuel and supplies to be delivered into Gaza, in addition to a welcome respite from the violence for Israelis and Palestinians.

The secretary of state also expressed condolences to the families of civilians who lost their lives or were injured.

“The United States remains dedicated to our ironclad commitment to Israel’s security and will remain fully engaged in the days ahead to promote calm,” wrote Blinken. “We will continue in the months ahead to work with partners to improve the quality of life for Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. Palestinians and Israelis deserve to live safely and securely and to enjoy equal measures of freedom, prosperity and democracy.”
