Top editor of state-linked Qatari daily hails Hamas’s ‘intelligence’ in truce talks

“For two years, Hamas has run the battle ... with unparalleled bravery in the field and with great intelligence at the negotiating table,” wrote Jaber al-Harmi.

The editor-in-chief of a Qatari newspaper closely aligned with Doha’s ruling family on Saturday praised Hamas for its “intelligence” in truce talks and “bravery” in fighting.

“Hamas ... In war, it fights bravely ... In negotiation, it is aware and intelligent,” Al-Sharq‘s Jaber al-Harmi tweeted, praising the U.S. designated terror group as “a model of honor in war and peace.”

In a longer post on his X account, al-Harmi said that Hamas’s decision to accept U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposal for Gaza confirmed that the terror group “possesses not just a strategic reserve of rockets and weapons, but of human minds, which is the most important.”

“Yes, Hamas has lost great leaders, not only during ‘Al-Aqsa Flood,’ but since its founding in 1987, yet its trajectory has been one of escalation and growth,” he continued, using Hamas’s name for the war sparked by the Oct. 7, 2023, terrorist massacre that killed 1,200 people in Israel.

“For two years, Hamas has run the battle—despite the suffocating siege—with unparalleled bravery in the field and with great intelligence at the negotiating table,” al-Harmi wrote in the X post on Saturday.

The Qatari journalist added a prayer that Allah protect Hamas terrorists “from the plots of the plotters, the conspiracies of the conspirators, the betrayal of the betrayers and the hypocrisy of the hypocrites.”

Headquartered in Doha, Al-Sharq is considered pro-government in its editorial stance and often reflects official regime messaging. It is one of Qatar’s three leading Arabic-language dailies.

The publisher of Al-Sharq, Dar Al Sharq, is privately held but owned by Sheikh Khalid bin Thani Abdullah Al Thani, a senior member of Qatar’s ruling family and a prominent businessman.

Over the course of the 23-month war initiated by Hamas, al-Harmi has called for “harvesting the heads” of Israeli Jews and has praised Hamas.

Last month, al-Harmi shared a video depicting Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as devils, while praising slain Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar and calling for the Jewish state’s destruction.

“Sinwar’s prophecy ... is coming true ... And other prophecies are inevitably on their way to being fulfilled,” he tweeted on Sept. 27, sharing a speech of the Hamas’s former top leader in the Strip.

The recording shared by al-Harmi was an except from a speech Sinwar gave leading up to the Oct. 7 cross-border attacks, in which the terrorist leader warned Hamas would isolate Israel “in an extreme and powerful manner, and end its integration in the region and the entire world.”

Al-Harmi’s post also contained video footage showing Arab and African delegates walking out of Netanyahu’s recent address to the U.N. General Assembly, as well as a clip from Instagram influencer Mazen Sukkarieh.

Sukkarieh’s video clip showed both Netanyahu and Trump as devils, with the Jewish state’s longtime leader even depicted as having horns.

In August, the Qatari journalist hailed attempts by Hamas to kidnap additional Israeli soldiers, urging the adding of “new rats to the tally held by the heroes of [Hamas’s Izz ad-Din al-Qassam] Brigades.”

Al-Harmi posted just hours after Hamas terrorists attempted to kidnap Israeli soldiers in the Gaza Strip, praising the ambush as a “qualitative operation” and lauding the perpetrators as “heroes.”

Qatar has long served as a key mediator in the ongoing truce talks between Israel and Hamas, alongside Egypt and the United States.

Trump announced on Saturday that Jerusalem had agreed to an initial withdrawal line in the Gaza Strip as part of his plan to end the war there.

“After negotiations, Israel has agreed to the initial withdrawal line, which we have shown to, and shared with, Hamas. When Hamas confirms, the Ceasefire will be IMMEDIATELY effective, the Hostages and Prisoner Exchange will begin, and we will create the conditions for the next phase of withdrawal, which will bring us close to the end of this 3,000 YEAR CATASTROPHE. Thank you for your attention to this matter and, STAY TUNED!” the president wrote on his Truth Social platform.
