A screenshot of a technical cooperation agreement that refers to the Palestinian Authority as the “State of Palestine” was tweeted by Israel’s envoy to Chile to publicly celebrate the signing of a new agriculture pact between Santiago and Ramallah.

“I congratulate [the government of Chile] for the agreement of [the Chilean Agency for International Cooperation] with its Palestinian counterpart. A positive step, cooperation is key to promoting prosperity and human well-being,” tweeted Israeli envoy Gil Artzyeli.

However, a Foreign Ministry spokesman told Haaretz, “There is absolutely no endorsement of the state of Palestine or anything of the kind.”

“We are very much in favor of economic activities which are beneficial to the Palestinian population but it doesn’t imply in any way recognition of the state of Palestine, and it’s not because you tag something which was tagged by the Chilean authorities that you automatically stand behind it. This is quite clear.”
