The only other Israeli president to address a joint session was Herzog’s father, Chaim, more than 35 years ago.
“Because he’s going to be in town, he’s going to meet President Biden,” the official told JNS.
The Israeli president was invited last October to address the lawmakers.
The presidential candidate slammed the White House strategy to combat antisemitism.
The nominees include a Wilmington Jewish leader that the president calls “my rabbi,” the CEO of the American Jewish Committee and a former U.S. ambassador to Spain.
“Antisemitic incidents are at a record high. This is hard to believe,” U.S. President Joe Biden said at the event.
“The good news: That’s way down from the $16 million Trump sent them in 2018,” wrote Daniel Pipes, president of the Middle East Forum.
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has said he would invite the Israeli prime minister if the president does not.
A few hours earlier, Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said the president has no plans to visit Israel for its 75th anniversary.
“Let us honor the timeless values, contributions and culture of Jewish Americans, who carry our nation forward every day,” said the president.
“As a life-long friend and supporter of the State of Israel, I have worked my entire career to deepen and strengthen our partnership,” said the U.S. president.
