The Republican Jewish Coalition PAC announced its first endorsements of the 2022 election cycle on Thursday, throwing its support behind five freshmen members of Congress seeking re-election.

According to an RJC news release, the candidates include California Republican Reps. Mike Garcia, Young Kim and Michelle Steel; and Florida Republicans Reps. Carlos Gimenez and Maria Elvira Salazar.

“This is an outstanding group of strong Republicans, each of whom defeated an incumbent Democrat and flipped their seat to the GOP in 2020. Leaders in their home districts, they are already taking leadership roles in the House,” Matt Brooks, RJC executive director, said in the release. “They are fighters for America’s freedom, security and prosperity, and they support our ally, Israel.”

Brooks continued, saying the five candidates the organization endorsed are in must-win districts if the Republicans are to retake control of the U.S. House of Representatives in 2022.

Kenneth Marcus, founder and chairman of the Brandeis Center, told JNS that “we understand that those who characterize us that way, rather than as the civil rights organization we are, generally aim to marginalize us or undermine our efforts.”
