Saudi Arabia is contributing a $90 million grant to the Palestinian Authority, Ramallah’s official Wafa agency reported on Monday.

Wafa cited P.A. deputy chief Hussein al-Sheikh as thanking Saudi Arabia for its “steadfast position” on the Palestinians and “support for their legitimate rights amid difficult economic and financial conditions.”

Riyadh’s ambassador to Jordan, Prince Mansour bin Khalid bin Farhan Al Saud, presented the grant to P.A. Finance Minister Estephan Salameh on Monday, the Jordan News Agency reported.

The Saudi envoy, in a statement cited by the agency, said the financial support reflects Riyadh’s ongoing commitment to backing Ramallah and “helping it meet its financial obligations.”

The ambassador also reaffirmed the Arab kingdom’s “steadfast, historic commitment to supporting the Palestinian people and their legitimate right to establish an independent state,” per the report.

In December 2023, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ruled out the possibility of the P.A. controlling Gaza the “day after” Hamas.

“The difference between Hamas and the P.A. is only that Hamas wants to destroy us here and now, and the P.A. wants to do it in stages,” he stated.

Asked in September about Ramallah’s role in Trump’s Gaza peace plan, the premier expressed skepticism about the prospects for reform, saying, “If all of that is turned on its head, there’s a tremendous transformation.”

“Good luck,” Netanyahu told Fox News, adding, “Some people will believe it happens. I don’t think it’s going to happen.”
