RE-LAW LLP announced that it has filed a Freedom of Information request with the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) on behalf of The Lawfare Project and the #EndJewHatred civil-rights movement.

RE-LAW LLP is requesting all documentation regarding the doctrine and the TDSB’s application of anti-Palestinian racism within the possession, control and power of the TDSB. This includes all documentation and community input that contributed to the report recently adopted by the TDSB.

“TDSB must be transparent and show the public why it decided to include language that will do nothing more than put a larger target on the backs of the Jewish community and silence their voices,” said Brooke Goldstein, founder and executive director of The Lawfare Project. “In a time of increased antisemitism in Canada and around the world, transparency will help cast a light on the antisemitic influences that hide in shadows to influence school boards to condone Jew-hatred.”

The decision to launch a Freedom of Information request comes after the TDSB adopted an anti-racism report, ‘‘Combating Hate and Racism Strategy,” which included ‘‘anti-Palestinian racism” but entirely excluded antisemitism, which has skyrocketed across Canada.

“The Lawfare Project and #EndJewHatred movement will leave no stone unturned in their battle against Jew-hatred and the tidal wave of antisemitism that is engulfing our community,” said David Elmaleh, partner at RE-LAW LLP. “The TDSB’s ill-advised decision, which failed to actually define anti-Palestinian racism, will lead to continued ostracization and demonization of Jews and Israel-supporters. The Lawfare Project and #EndJewHatred is committed to bringing everything that transpired, up to the moment of the vote, into the public domain.”

The Lawfare Project is a nonprofit legal think tank based in New York City that mobilizes public officials, media, jurists and legal experts to counter the international lawfare phenomenon: the abuse of the law as a weapon of war against Western democracy. Through its Legal Fund, the LP facilitates and finances offensive and defensive counter-lawfare actions regarding pressing issues that include, among others: fighting terror-front organizations operating in the United States and Canada; bigoted and unlawful international commercial discrimination based on ethnicity and national origin; and the perversion and misapplication of international and national human-rights law against the United States and other democracies.
