“He’s that talented, and we all know it. He’s a selfless kid who worked hard and stayed within the offense to produce,” said Yeshiva University head coach basketball Elliot Steinmetz of 22-year-old, 6-foot-7-inch senior guard Ryan Turell.
Inaugural director tapped to lead Sacks-Herenstein Center for Values and Leadership
Erica Brown will begin her new position at Yeshiva University on Jan. 1.
It will be dedicated to the dissemination of his leadership lessons and values in classrooms, communities and through public discussion.
He was considered one of the great Jewish ethicists, lecturing and writing on Jewish law and medicine. He covered such subjects as the Human Genome Project, neonatal salvage, the use of mood-modifying drugs, stem-cell research, organ donation and experimental treatments on human beings.
“Donors were attracted to his brilliance, his integrity. He used the various parts in his personality and background to the advantage of fundraising and the university,” relates his son-in-law, Rabbi Mark Dratch.
While his former teammates won a national championship in 1950, Hershkowitz studied Torah for several hours a day, while starring on the basketball court for the YU Maccabees.
The Maccabees celebrated its 29th consecutive win.
