The move comes after anti-Semitic fliers were distributed last month to hundreds of homes in there and in Miami Beach.
Incidents include swastikas, ethnic slurs, anti-Semitic “jokes,” “Heil Hitler” salutes, and not accommodating those who observe holidays.
“Hussain Altamimi has made false, hateful, anti-Semitic, anti-Israel accusations on Instagram,” ZOA national president Morton Klein said in a letter sent to the New York legislator.
“We’re at a critical moment when Israel and her leaders and all of us who love Israel must stand strong against what this administration is trying to do,” ZOA President Mort Klein told viewers of the organization’s virtual gala.
“We can’t allow that to happen. We can’t allow the current administration to reverse the historic change, the historic progress we brought to the Middle East,” says the former secretary of state.
“As in any other dictatorial, oppressive regime, many of Iran’s victims are their own people,” said Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett. “While the people of Iran suffer from poverty, the IRGC [Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps] are sending unimaginable amounts of money to fund their proxy terror groups.”
The Philadelphia Free Library said that it would be auditing its social-media posts, which with all its branches was going to be time-consuming; update its blog guidelines and social-media policy; and meet with members of the Jewish community to help guide the library in the future.
The final vote was 40 to expel, 48 against it with 10 abstentions. ZOA’s Mort Klein took aim at J Street and other progressive groups, saying these “radical adversaries condemned ZOA based on a set of distortions, absurdities and blatant lies.”
The Coalition for Jewish Values argued that the charges brought against ZOA national president Mort Klein “combine a demand for ideological conformity with demonization in place of debate.”
In a nod to the controversy, the Membership Committee did recommend that the organization adopt language to make clear its stance against white supremacism and racism.
Christians United for Israel and the Zionist Organization of America urged the Senate to reject the nomination.
The appeal comes in response to a request by left-wing Jewish groups to rescind the directive put in place by the Trump administration.
