Veteran TV correspondent Ellie Cohanim has been tapped as the U.S. State Department’s Deputy Special Envoy for Monitoring and Combating Anti-Semitism.

The department’s top anti-Semitism envoy, Elan Carr, made the announcement on Friday.

“Proud to announce that Ellie Cohanim of New York has joined my team. Ellie will be a strong asset in combatting anti-Semitism around the world. Congratulations Ellie! We’re thrilled to have you on board!” tweeted Carr.

The deputy role, like the top envoy, is not subject to U.S. Senate confirmation.

Previously, Cohanim served as senior vice president and a special correspondent for the Jewish Broadcasting Service, and has served on the boards of Jewish organizations, including the American Jewish Committee for the New York region, according to her LinkedIn profile.
