Campus Antisemitism
Linda McMahon highlighted student criticism of the Ivy League school’s campus culture while responding to questions from lawmakers during a House hearing on higher education policy.
“To simply acknowledge that antisemitism was widespread at Nathan Hale but taking no further action was in no way a reasonable response,” an attorney for the plaintiff told JNS.
The initiative “reflects a clear recognition that the challenges facing Jewish students and faculty must be addressed directly and seriously,” Dan Gold of UCLA Hillel told JNS.
A U.S. Commission on Civil Rights report found that Jewish students faced exclusion, harassment and disrupted religious programming during anti-Israel protests and a 2024 encampment.
“At commencement this year, we want to support and uplift Palestinian students, faculty and the broader community,” per the order form. “Students nationwide have been suspended, expelled, arrested and now deported for their support of Palestinians’ human rights.”
StandWithUs stated that “some Jewish students at UC Law San Francisco already feel compelled to conceal their Jewish identity out of concern for their safety.”
Video from the rally at Columbia University shows violent activists pushing barriers and confronting law enforcement personnel.
“While our ability to provide additional information at this time is limited, we will continue to keep the community informed,” the private D.C. university stated.
Kimberly Richey, assistant U.S. secretary of education for civil rights, stated that “such institutional neglect will not be tolerated.”
Prof. Bassam Hussein referred to the Hamas massacres as “the most beautiful thing that has happened in our century.”
“At least one student was injured by this incident, which is now under an investigation that will examine among other things whether individuals were targeted based on their Jewish faith,” the private D.C. school said.
