Bernard-Henri Lévy guest of honor, debuts film at Jewish festival in Jerusalem

In a 94-minute documentary, he travels to Nigeria, Kurdistan, Ukraine, Somalia, Bangladesh, Greece, Libya and Afghanistan.

French philosopher, writer and filmmaker Bernard-Henri Lévy will be the guest of honor at the 2021 Jerusalem Jewish Film Festival, where he will also debut his latest documentary, reported The Jerusalem Post.

“The Will to See,” co-directed by Marc Roussel, is an “unflinching look at the most urgent humanitarian crises around the globe” and follows Levy, a veteran war correspondent, as he travels to eight war-torn locations, “bearing witness to tremendous human suffering and misery, where the world’s destiny is being determined, and no one, it seems is be paying attention.”

In the 94-minute documentary, Levy travels to Nigeria; Syrian and Iraqi Kurdistan; Ukraine; Somalia; Bangladesh; Lesbos, Greece; Libya; and Afghanistan. Levy visited the locations in 2020 right before or during the coronavirus pandemic.

He additionally published a book in October about his experiences, also titled The Will to See.

“The Will to See” will make its Israeli premiere at the festival on Nov. 28. The screening will be followed by a conversation between Levy and award-winning journalist and documentary filmmaker Itai Anghel.

The Jerusalem Jewish Film Festival will take place from Nov. 27 to Dec. 2 at the Jerusalem Cinematheque.
